Walt Disney Pictures is teaming with Twilight co-production company Temple Hill Entertainment to bring the best-selling Aprilynne Pike novel “Wings” to the silver screen. The film is being developed for Miley Cyrus to play the leading role of Laurel, a 15-year-old girl who grows up sheltered and home-schooled in a small town. Miley Cyrus’ mother Tish will also Executive Produce.

Pike’s novel is the first of a planned four-book series, and is expected to become a film franchise vehicle for Miley Cyrus.

Story:

Wings is the story of Laurel, a 15-year-old girl who grows up sheltered and home-schooled in a small town. Adjusting to a big high school is difficult, and her suspicion that she’s not like the other kids becomes a reality when she sprouts a pair of wings and learns that she’s a fairy.

Many commentators think that Disney is doing this to catch up with the hugely sucessful Twilight series, but really it doesn’t matter why they are doing it, what matters is we get to the book translated into an awesome high budget movie on the silver screen!

How do we know it’s going to be high budget? Well, two words.

Miley Cyrus

That’s right, on top of this, Miley Cyrus has been cast to play Laurel in the movie! If you don’t know who Miley is, and have been living under a rock, Miley is the star of the hit disney show Hannah Montana and is pretty much the most followed actress out there right now.

Aprilynne already came under some criticism for allowing Disney to cast the tween star, as fans thought that it might water down the movie and it might lose some of the great plotline due to it becoming ‘yet another hollywood fad’.

Pike quickly responded to these claims on her blog, saying “Please don’t hate Miley. No really”. Aprilynne thinks Miley will be fantastic in the role. Miley has apparently read the first book and loved it, she is currently filming her next big release, ‘The Last Song’ in Tybee, Georgia.

Aprilynne rounds off her blog comment by saying:

But all in all, I am thrilled with Disney, I am thrilled with Wyck and Marty and Amanda, and I gotta tell you, I am thrilled with Miley.

I’m just all around thrilled!!

And so are we!! We just can’t wait for the movie to be made, and congratulate Aprilynne for getting the success she deserves as the author of such a fantastic book!
