In other news, Illusions has been written for a few months now, and the draft of the fourth book has already been completed! I know that I can’t wait for the new book to come out, Spells left me yearning for more and I can’t wait to read Illusions now.

Unfortunately, we will have to wait until next summer for Illusions. The rough date announced is May 2011, so we may just have to hang in there a while longer!

Thanks for entering the contest! Aprilynne has now chosen the winner and they have been contacted by email. There were 40 entries in total and it was not an easy choice as all of the entries were very impressive. In the end, three finalists were passed to Aprilynne herself to choose the winner and she chose Rhea as the winner for her excellent trailer that she made for a movie version of wing’s.

You can view the trailer below:

The two runners up were the following:

Another final chapter by Kristi Clark:

Chapter twenty-six

Laurel felt herself slowly shatter with each step she took away from Tamani, each step bringing her closer to her worried mother awaiting for her in the van. Oh, how much Laurel wanted to turn and run back to Tamani once more. How she felt being held in his arms… Stop. She told herself, pushing her feet to take a shaky step. David, David, David. She chanted David’s name over and over again in her head, forcing a smile as her mother waved her down in the van. Laurel tried to picture David in her mind, but she couldn’t remember the color of eyes that he had… only the deep green ones of Tamani. “Oh honey, are you okay?” Jerking her head up to mother’s voice, she could feel herself flinch. “Yeah, mom. I’m fine.” Her mother titled her head down at her, her eyes glancing from her to the forest behind them. “We need to get going, your father is waiting.” Laurel barely felt her mothers hand on her shoulder, barely felt her own feet towing her to the van. Each step it felt like she was leaving a piece of herself. David and her mother and her father needed her, needed her to protect them. But oh, Tamani… that kiss. Numbly, she felt herself lick her lips; they still tingled where Tamani had kissed her back. That memory of the kiss that happened moments ago made every inch of her skin warm with his touch. Stop it! She yelled at herself again, clenching her teeth together as she opened the passenger side door. “Oh! Wait, could you run inside the house and get the box we left the last time we were here?” Glancing over at her mom who was quickly searching through her pockets for the cabin door, what could she say? ‘No mom, if you make me walk any closer to the woods I’ll run back through them and forget you completely as I fall into the arms of the… of the boy I happen to love?’ Or maybe she could say, ‘Why would you make me do that after what your making me do now?’ But the more Laurel thought about that snappy question, the more guilt set in. No one was making her do this, but herself. Her parents would hate her leaving, yes, but if it made Laurel happy they would let her dance around the street nude… as long as it made her happy. Gritting her teeth together and forcing a smile, she dropped the shoes Tamani gave her and reached out to take the keys. “Sure, mom.” Her mother blinked down at her, and the guilt in Laurel’s stomach bubbled up even more. “Be right back.” She called over her shoulder, shutting the van door with her foot.

Something pulled at Laurel’s skin as she walked back to the cabin, something that forced her eyes to glance around the woods even with the protest she muttered under her breath. If only she could see his face once more, then maybe it would be okay. Maybe if she didn’t have to wait so long to come back then maybe it wouldn’t be so painful to leave him. She had already left him once, even if she couldn’t really remember it, he could. Walking up the steps quickly with the key in hand Laurel again glanced around the woods. They seemed so different now that she knew what was truly behind the blanket of trees. They seemed so more breathtaking and mysterious. Snapping her head back to the door, her hands were shaking so badly it took her a good two minutes to even get the key into the lock. The whole time, she could feel her mother’s eyes boring into her back with that worried expression that caused her forehead to crease and her mouth to go into a thin bleak line. Shoving her shoulder into the sticky old door, finally she made a step into her old home. It still smelled the same but the dusky smell almost over took the easy going scent. Slowly, so very slowly did Laurel look over every inch of the house she could see. Craning her neck back a little, she could see the steps fading into the upstairs where her bedroom door stood not even six steps away. Her parent’s room was on lower level and if she tilted her head a little to the side and squint her eyes down the hallway, the outline of the door stood out brightly. She closed her eyes suddenly, taking in the at home feeling that covered the guilt in her stomach. She stood there and let the feel of Tamani’s arms around her like they still held her tightly against his chest. Easily Laurel remembered ever inch of his sharp, cunning face. The lines of his jaws and the deep set color in his eyes. He seemed far too good to be true.

“Find it?” Her mother yelled, her voice being carried by the wind. Laurel blinked her eyes open quickly and easily found the box sitting on the stairs. “Yeah!” She called back. The box didn’t weigh much, surprisingly. Just as she turned her back a soft knocking sound sent a chill over her skin. Glancing over her shoulder to up the steps, the knocking sound came again. “Hey mom!” Poking her head out of the door with the box still in hand. “I think I forgot something in my room, I’ll be right out!” The gleam of the sun on the van windshield blocked her mother from her eyes, it didn’t stop her though. Placing the box back down on the steps, she very slowly walked up the steps she’s been up and down more in her life then she’d breathed. Wiping her hands on the tops of her jeans, the soft knocking grew in volume. It sounded, Laurel thought, like someone walking around. The thought caused her to panic and at the same time… speed her steps up just a tad. Pressing her ear against the door, she could easily point out a hushed whisper muttering under their breath. “Stupid, stupid.” The voice muttered, disgusted with himself. Laurel pressed her ear against the door harder trying to pinpoint everything going on. “Why didn’t you try harder?” The voice whispered to himself. She knew the voice, knew the voice so well every bad thought that creased her mind vanished. “Why didn’t you go after her stupid Tamani!” If neither her nor Tamani where in this position she would have laughed. She didn’t though. A frown picked at the corners of her lips and she could feel guilt eat away at her yet again. Should I open the door? The thought ran over her head so quickly in such a short amount of time she didn’t even notice the banging at first. “I lost her again.” Tam sobbed, hitting the wall on the far side of her bedroom so loudly Laurels eyes watered with each loud bang. Tears blurred her vision at the sound in his voice, burned her mind with a sound she never, ever wanted to hear again. The pain and sadness. “How could she? She knows… she knows I love her…” Closing her eyes against the tears, she pictured what Tamani looked like. His dark hair with its green roots glistening against his tan skin and green eyes. A thud caused Laurel to bite down on her lip, tears falling down Tamani’s eyes in her mind and yet he still looked like the angel she knew he really was.

The door was cool against her forehead when she pressed it against the wood, hands tightening on each side of her at the sobs escaping Tamani’s lips. The very lips that still burned against Laurels and she knew they would continue to tingle with his taste until the end of her days. David could kiss her millions of times and it wouldn’t even be a portion of Tamani’s warmth. Touching her lips with one of her hands, tears covered her pale face quickly. Even if David couldn’t even measure to Tamani in anyway shape or form, she has to protect her family. There is hope for us, she whispered in her mind wishing Tamani could hear her thoughts. I’ll come back for you when I know everything is safe for my parents. The sobs on the other side of the door slowed just for a second. Laurel blinked her burning teary eyes open and pressed her lips against the wood. She wished it were Tamani’s warm lips that kissed back but she wouldn’t be able to fill them again until the second she could come and live in her real world with him. I’ll be back as soon as I can, she thought forcefully. Until then I’ll cry every night wishing I were with you and in your arms and I will think of you very day until then. I will never leave you again after this, so please Tam… The name even in her mind caused her eyes to burn with more tears. Please Tam be strong, be strong until I can come back to you and hold you and tell you everything will be okay. Pulling her head back from the door, the sobs were stopped but the tears still burned Laurel’s cheeks. Brushing her fingers over the wood she couldn’t help but to kiss the door once more. “I love you, Tamani. So very much.” Laurel whispered so softly, so gently that she could barely hear it. Taking a step from the door, she slowly turned on her heels. The sounds of him getting up caused her to take the steps down two at a time, grabbing the box so quickly it almost fell to the ground. She couldn’t see him, not until she could stay here. His image forever will burn behind her eyelids, but if she saw him right now… she would never go.

Shutting the door with one hand, her eyes caught a movement on the top of the stairs. Her bedroom door opened, sending the bright light of the sun over every inch of the hallway. Just as Laurel took a step back, Tamani stepped out of the room with his angel face glowing. Even from here she could see the red marks of fallen tears down his cheeks. Taking a deep breath, she found his eyes after looking over every inch of his face only to see his eyes glued to hers. A small smile turned at the corners of his lips, brightening his eyes up so much that it took the breath right out of Laurels mouth. Watching closely as his lips formed silent words, she couldn’t help herself but to smile back. “I love you too” he mouthed as Laurel took another step back. Quickly he looked away, over to the van where her mother sat; and quickly he looked back into Laurel’s eyes. Tilting his head into a small nod, she knew what it meant. ‘I’ll be okay’, his eyes said as he kissed his hand and blew her a kiss. The action sent butterflies in her stomach and his warmth to seep through her skin even with the distance. With a final smile Tamani turned back into her bedroom and shut the door, blacking out the hallway from her eyes. The sound of the horn beeping caused her to whip her head to look at her awaiting mother. Worry still etched over her face making Laurel slowly smile. As she walked down the steps with the box in her hands and keys lying on top of it, she could feel eyes watch her. Quickly she glanced to her right, only to smile softly and look back to her mother. His green eyes so filled with a warmth and calmness it made Laurel think he could really read her mind and understand how much she truly did love him. “Did you get what you needed out of your room?” Laurel’s mother asked as soon as she opened the door and pulled herself in with the box in her lap. Looking over at her mother, her lips twisted into a bright grin. “I did.” Laurel whispered, turning her head back to the forest as her mother backed out of the driveway. Tamani stood there with one of his hands waving away to her. ‘I’ll be back as soon as I can.’ Laurel mouthed to him, seeing the bright gleam of happiness shin in his green eyes. And just as she blinked, he was gone. Each second as Laurel’s mother backed out of their driveway, she could feel small pieces of herself falling to the ground. But the image of the smiling… happy Tamani caused the itching pain that once was in her stomach to fade away. She knew he would be strong and be waiting for her with open arms as soon as she got back. The time that it took though, Laurel thought sadly, was still an unanswered question. As soon as I can, she thought back to herself closing her eyes. The image of Tamani dancing behind her closed eyelids as she drifted into a peaceful sleep hearing his deep voice whisper to her that he loves her too as he planted kiss after kiss onto her smiling lips.

Two exciting pieces of news right before Christmas!

1. The Jacket copy of Spells has been released. Basically this is what will be written on the inside of the book dust jacket. Here it is!:

“I can’t just storm in and proclaim my intentions. I cant ’steal’ you away. I just have to wait and hope that, someday, you’ll ask,” Tamani said.

“And if I don’t?” Laurel said, her voice barely above a whisper.

“Then I guess I’ll be waiting forever.”

Although Laurel has come to accept her true identity as a faerie, she refuses to turn her back on her human life–and especially her boyfriend David–to return to the fae world.

But when she is summoned to Avalon, Laurel’s feeling for the charismatic faerie sentry Tamani are undeniable. She is forced to make a choice–a choice that could break her heart.

The cover for the newest book by Aprilynne Pike in the series has just been released! It looks really great. This is the US version and bear in mind that the British version could be different.

The next book in the series will be called ‘Spells’. Although Aprilynne mentioned it on the forums here a while ago, she asked us not to publish the title. It appears that the titles are following the pattern of ‘fairy abilities’ that some predicted.

So without further ado, here it is, Spells, the official sequel!:
